Scott brings significant project and operational management experience to the StoreWest team. In addition to his real estate and development experience with the StoreWest group, Scott also serves as the VP of Business Development with Sussex Retirement Living. Sussex is a prominent North American retirement living residence developer with a portfolio valued at over $250 million. Sussex, like StoreWest, is focused primarily on greenfield development and eventual sale to a third party. Scott also has a strong understanding of the private capital markets, with over 15 years of experience in private equity. Prior to Sussex, Scott was the President of i9 Capital Consulting Group during which time he and his team assisted in the raising of over $200 million in private equity.

Steve Elliott

Steve is a proven business development executive with over 15 years of experience in the private capital markets. In addition to his role with StoreWest, Steve is also the VP of Business Development  for Robson Financial based out of Vancouver. Robson Financial is part of the Hillcore Group of companies with approximately $4.5billion AUM. Previous to joining Hillcore, Steve was the Vice President of the Capita Funds Asset Management platform that is approximately $800 million AUM and is based in Calgary. Steve was also the Senior Vice President of Sales for Western Canada at Marquest Asset Management from 2010 to 2013. Steve is currently working on his Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Designation and has completed the Petroleum Joint Venture Analyst Designation from Mount Royal University. He also holds the Chartered Investment Management Designation and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Athabasca University.

Roland has been involved in sales and business development for over 20 years, and has been involved   in real estate since 2003. He spent almost a decade in private equity, working with a real estate based equity firm with assets in the billions. Roland managed teams in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and led business development, sales, and client/partner relations in all three regions. In his role as Vice President, he was responsible for annual sales of over $50 million and managed relationships representing over $500 million in investments. Roland is also a member in good standing and certified in Operations and Management by the Canadian Self Storage Association (CSSA).

Matt Verity

In addition to his projects with StoreWest, Matt has been investing in real estate since 2000 and in self storage since 2012. He built an extensive real estate business as a licensed agent over 15 years while growing his investment portfolio. With his broad real estate background, he has worked with investors to achieve their financial goals through self-storage, rent to own, residential property, multi-family commercial, and land syndication.

Matt is a member in good standing and is certified in Operations and Management by the Canadian Self Storage Association (CSSA), as well as a member of the Self Storage Association (SSA). He has also completed extensive training at the Self Storage Academy in Indianapolis, Indiana, and has been mentored in commercial investment by Scott Meyers of the Self Storage Investing Group, and the brokers of Re/Max Commercial Calgary.

Darren Smits

Darren is a business law lawyer and partner in the Calgary office of Miller Thomson LLP. He practices in corporate/commercial, franchising, real estate, and development law. He also focuses on private placements for his clients.

In his practice, Darren has experience with mergers and acquisitions, structuring development projects, facilitating private placements for various development projects, and acting for both lenders and borrowers. Additionally, Darren brings extensive experience in securities law and has assisted numerous clients in the structuring of private equity offerings. Darren has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 2002.

Layne brings over two decades of experience in the Real Estate Investment and Development field. His main areas of expertise are the acquisition, planning, and structuring of investment strategies for residential, commercial and industrial real estate assets.

Layne has been an integral member of the management team with Pacific Investments & Development Ltd for over 21 years. During this time, Pacific has successfully exited 17 real estate development projects with an excellent track-record of investor returns. Layne has assisted in the management of real estate projects ranging from 20 acres to 1000 acres and valued at over $100 million. Over the course of his career he has raised more than $250 million in private investment across 22 real estate projects.

Additionally, Layne has been directly involved in the planning and building process for two successful Self- Storage facilities, and two car washes in the City of Calgary. Layne’s development experience is an invaluable asset in the management of municipal planning approvals, construction planning, investment structuring, and delivering a profitable Real Estate Development to market.
